Moving Day: A Guide
- Make arrangements to collect your new key or confirm key collection arrangements with the agent.
- Pack a small box of items you'll need for immediate use in your new home, including some toiletries, a change of clothes, medicines, a few cleaning products, toilet paper, soap and towels.
- Pack another box with kitchen essentials for the move day such as a kettle, cutlery, mugs, tea, coffee, snacks and a full on picnic lunch. Don't skimp on food, it will help reduce stress.
- Do a final check around all storage areas and all cupboards.
- Get an early start on moving day.
- Check off all furniture and cartons against your master-manifest prior to them being loaded into the removalist's truck.
- Turn off electricity at the meter-box and turn off gas at the gas meter.
- Do a final security check and check all windows and doors.
- Keep your valuables, personal effects and important papers with you, DO NOT send them in the removalist's truck.
- When you arrive at your new house bring in all the boxes then check the master manifest. Immediately after that, unpack bedding and make up beds as soon as possible - you'll thank yourself at the end of a tiring day.
