Hiring Removalists
As with any service there are all sorts of options available to assist with a move. They range from the part-service removalists that include two men and a truck up to full-service removalists where you need not touch a thing.

Part-service furniture removalist
This is the most popular option when moving house. The onus is on the individual to pack up the household and the removalist company does the rest. That is they load the pre-packaged boxes into their removal vans, transport your belongings and unload and deliver the boxes to various rooms as numbered by you. Essentially it's you pack, they load, they deliver, they unload and you unpack in your new home. However, there can be a few traps so it pays to shop around. Firstly, some removalists do have a policy where you must use their packaging materials.

This can be expensive but it is also very convenient. Transcorp Removals has an excellent online shopping area. All inventory items are broken down into packages specially designed for the size of the home calculated by the number of bedrooms.

There are a number of other things to remember when obtaining a quote. Firstly, how does the removalist want the boxes packed, stacked, numbered or otherwise identified? Secondly, are there weight limits and if so what are the extra charges to have heavy items moved? Finally, check if there are waiting time charges and if there is a half-day rate or only an all-day rate?

Insurance
Removalists will be able to provide insurance but it will only cover the things they are moving. The best way to arrange insurance is to extend the coverage of your current household contents insurance. Your current provider will be able to give a quote for the added risk and will explain the fine details of the policy.

Be sure to tell the insurance company about any special cover that may be necessary. For instance, a special piece of furniture may warrant extra cover due to the cost of replacing it. It's always advisable to be covered for a potentially devastating loss. Never ignore any special conditions the insurer sets which could lead to an invalidated policy.

Take photos of all insured items before removal. Methodically go from room to room and make a list that corresponds with each photograph. Be sure to date the images and name each image item as you have named it on the attached document. Forward a copy of the list to the insurer and keep two copies in a safe place to ensure verification of any future claims.
